A. B. Smith of Madison, Indiana is recorded as having been awarded a Lane work—"View in Boston Harbor" (no. 197)—at the 1849 American Art Union. The description refers to "A merchant vessel with a lighter alongside. On the right a man-of-war. Beyond is the city of Boston."
